Drunk driving is a continuing problem during the holiday season that begins during Thanksgiving week and extends through New Year’s Day. Already in 2021, there have been 59 deaths from alcohol related collisions reported to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and almost 900 confirmed injuries. Many more go unreported.
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), 40% of traffic-related deaths during Christmas and New Year’s involve drivers who are impaired, which is a 12% increase over the rest of the month of December. Drive Safely, Alert and Sober!
