The law firm Althauser Rayan Abbarno is kicking off its 5th year collecting back-to-school clothing and supplies for students in the Centralia School District. Althauser Rayan Abbarno is partnering with the Centralia Community Foundation for the third-year.
“Every student should have the tools for success,” said Peter Abbarno, partner with Althauser Rayan Abbarno. “Our local students should not have to suffer in school and go without school supplies because of their family economic situation. This is about breaking the cycle of poverty and giving each student a chance at success.”
Beginning in July, supply drive collection bins will be distributed in participating businesses, like Innovations in EyeCare and Dick’s Brewery. There will be a Stuff the Bus event at Walmart on August 16, 17, and 18 with Centralia School District students collecting supplies for their classmates.
Last year the Stuff the Bus event was a huge success. A bus was filled in the Walmart parking lot over a weekend and students collected almost $2,000.00 for additional clothing and supplies. The supplies are then collected and organized at Dick’s Brewing Company with the help of owner Julie Young Pendleton.
“Each year the supply drive gets bigger and that’s a result of amazing partnerships with local businesses, Centralia Community Foundation, City of Centralia and their staff, the Chronicle, the school district, and Julie Pendleton at Dick’s Brewing Company,” added Abbarno. “The supply drive began after years of my wife, Holly, a teacher in the district, asking my law firm to donate supplies and clothing. The need is real and we can’t blame elementary school students for their condition. We need to help them break that poverty cycle.”
