Hope Cards provide victims proof of protection orders

by Peter Abbarno | Apr 29, 2025 | Criminal Defense, Family Practice

The Washington state Legislature improved the Hope Card program with Rep. Dan Griffey’s HB 1460. The policy will deliver more safety and peace of mind for victims of abuse and domestic violence.

In 2023, the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has developed a Hope Card program. Any person who has been issued a full domestic violence protection order, sexual assault protection order, stalking protection order, vulnerable adult protection order, or anti-harassment order may request a Hope Card from the clerk of the issuing court at the time the order is issued or any time prior to the expiration of the order.

The new legislation provides that Hope Cards must be in a scannable electronic format and include specified information if the card issuer has the means and information available; changes the information that is required to be included in Hope Cards and procedures for issuance of Hope Cards; and requires the Administrative Office of the Courts to ensure that
information required to be included in a Hope Card is provided by each court.
